About CDL |

Community Development Library (CDL), a non-government development organization, came into being in 1980 with the mission of delivering development information to activists and organizations who are committed to promotion of sustainable development, gender equity, social justice, human rights and community education.
The main objective of the organization is to raise the critical consciousness of the society through catalysts. They include-academics, planners, development activists, cultural activists, political activists, human rights activists, environmentalists, feminists, community leaders and so forth. The target audience is engaged in activities intending to change the quality of life of the people, particularly the disadvantaged groups of the society.
CDL believes that 'information' is one of the main regulators of social progress in this age. But there exists an acute paucity of development information at all levels especially in countries like Bangladesh. The backward and vulnerable people and communities have little or no access to vital information, particularly information pertaining to public resources. CDL feels that a well-planned effort encompassing collection, processing and dissemination of information would help in attaining a required level of awareness in the society and, in turn, would accelerate the process of empowerment of the people. Therefore, CDL aims to develop people's capability to participate in an evolving knowledge-based society by making information available for all.
In order to achieve the goal and to create a well-processed comprehensive information base the following activities are undertaken by CDL: |
| |
- Collection of information from primary and secondary sources and conducting research on concerned development issues i.e. planning, environment, gender, human rights, education, training, consumer issues, poverty alleviation, trade union, culture, disaster management, health and sanitation, peace, solidarity, child development, good governance, etc.
- Establishment of multi-media based networks and service delivery system;
- Promotion of knowledge-based human resource development.
