Community Development Library (CDL) has been striving towards building a society where the gap between the information-rich and information poor-minimizes continually so that the underprivileged people have their fair share of all the resources necessary to live a decent life. CDL firmly believes that right to information leads to right to all other livelihood options. The underprivileged, especially women, children, People with Disability, Ethnic minority groups, people living in remote areas, etc., can enjoy a better lifestyle if there are given proper assistance in gainfully utilizing key development information in all walks of their life. With its other program components, CDL has been maintaining 24 Rural Information Resource Centres (RIRCs) in various regions of Bangladesh. These RIRCs have been catering to the information needs of people from all walks of life. They have also been carrying out multifarious information, awareness raising, advocacy and policy lobbying initiatives in close collaboration with other development organizations working in the program areas.

Women's Forum: The Women’s Forum initiative was taken with an aim to inform women communities especially the underprivileged women, about their socio-economic rights and responsibilities, the way they can organize and empower themselves and strive for ensuring their social rights. Presently, only the Sylhet RIRC has the Women’s Forum. The Women’s Forum has formed a committee at the local level, which consists of local women activists, social workers, journalists, NGO representatives, etc. this committee organizes seminars, symposia, discussion meetings, day observation programs, etc. with a view to undertake social awareness campaigns and effectively motivate, inform and empower women to ensure their unhindered development.

Youth Forum: CDL RIRCs have 24 Youth Forums all over the country. The Youth Forums are engaged in various information, social awareness raising and development activities which are benefiting a large number of people. The Youth Forum members regularly take part in various leadership development trainings organized by CDL. They also work as CDL’s ambassadors in various information driven interventions. They also help fellow YF members in attaining leadership qualities by arranging debriefing sessions after they take part in various training programs. Thanks to YF, the youths are involved in exercising real leadership by designing, implementing, and evaluating programs and activities in real life situations. This program has developed the knowledge base of the youths on programs, issues, success stories and best practices relating particularly to the development issues and initiatives.
Activities of Youth Forum:

Children's Corner: Presently, every RIRC has a Children's Corner. In this Corner, different children related materials are displayed and preserved so that children users can avail themselves of these facilities. These materials include books, posters, pamphlets, leaflets and other IEC (Information Education and Communication) materials. Children can get different social awareness messages on health, environment, child rights, and pother pertinent issues and can form their own opinions with these regards. They can also watch videos and can learn a great deal about many things including social injustice and inequalities, causes and prevention of common diseases, child rights and responsibilities, national development problems and prospects, etc. They can also take part in different children-centered activities like debate, study circle, rallies, cultural programs organized by the RIRCs. CDL's Children's Corner initiative has already generated much interest and enthusiasm among the children in its program areas and holds great potential for inspiring pro-children initiatives in the future.
